Mammography

Mammography - in general

In many countries it is common to perform regular screening on women's breasts. This is to discover early stages of breast cancer which is the most common cancer form for women. It is of outmost importance that the dose contribution from the screening is very low since each woman will take this examination on several occasions during her life and the risk should be as low as possible that this screening procedure itself induces a breast cancer.

Checking the mammography system

Your Quality Control and Service of the mammography systems must be done in a accurate, quick and efficient way to make sure that the dose and other parameters are within acceptance limits and to ensure that the hospital do not have any down time on the X-ray systems. A deeper understanding of the X-ray systems can also be very valuable for further dose optimization.

RTI will provide the instrumentation you need. To use a solid state detector in mammography comes with many advantages. The RTI systems do not register any backscatter and the positioning of the detector is taken care of by our software as well as the energy dependence for a fast and accurate result. It is possible to view the waveforms of the output and get an understanding of pre-pulses and more. We have solutions for an efficient storage and reporting of the measured data. Nine different beam qualities are supported to cover all of the different mammography units you might come across!

The systems we recommend for the QA and Service in mammography are the Piranha or the Barracuda with MPD. With the Barracuda you can also use ion chambers. The HVL stand and filters are possible accessories.
